Autumn 2 in Hazel class.
Hazel class have had an action packed half term!
This half term we have been learning about Remembrance Day and enjoyed reading 'The Little Hen and the Great War' by Jennifer Beck. We learnt a lot about what war was like for soldiers in World War I and did some amazing writing about the characters and their experiences.
We enjoyed working with a partner during a drama session about 'The Little Hen and The Great War'. We took on the roles of the hen and the soldier and had to consider their feelings during a key part of the story. We learnt how words ending in 'less' often describe sad feelings and those ending in 'full' and 'ness' describe more happy feelings.
We used this drama to help us to describe the emotions of the hen and the soldier, from the story, in our writing. We wrote some beautiful pieces of work describing the experiences of the key characters.
We have also learnt about Remembrance Day and how people who have fought during wars, past and present, are remembered.
We went to visit our local war memorial and found out what happens in Odiham on Remembrance Day. We noticed lots of familiar names on the War Memorial and learnt that local streets are named after many of the soldiers who lost their lives while fighting.
We couldn't let the half term go by without some Christmas celebrations!
We are all really excited about Christmas and have really enjoyed all the fun that comes with being in Year 2 at Christmas time.
We have been reading 'Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present and have loved writing our own letters to Father Christmas. We were a little worried that he wouldn't know how to get to our houses and where to find our stockings and Christmas tree. So, we wrote him some instructions to help him!
We have really enjoyed learning and rehearsing our Christmas play 'A Miracle in Town'. We all took on traditional roles and used really loud, clear voices when saying our words. We have especially loved learning and singing the songs from the play.
Hazel Class wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
